State of the Art Computer Analysis
Surface EMG

A surface EMG is a machine which measures small amounts of electricity and heat from the surface of the body. A computer interprets the information gathered by the EMG and gives a reading of the information. The EMG measures the muscles on the sides of your spine to determine if one side is more active than another. One side may be overactive or one side may not be active enough. This is a safe and easy way to gather information regarding your problem. The surface EMG shows the location of muscle spasms and the severity of muscle spasms.

Paraspinal Infared Imaging
If your body temperature is 98.6 degrees, then the left and right sides of your spine should also be the same temperature.  Your skin is the largest organ of the body and the blood vessels under the skin work as the body’s thermostat.  (They expand to release heat and contract to retain heat controlling the body’s temperature.)  When the communications between the Nervous System and the blood vessels is disturbed, it causes the body’s thermostat to malfunction producing an imbalanced temperature reading along the spine.  These blood vessels are controlled by the same part of the Central Nervous System that runs your organs and glands, known as the autonomic system.  This thermal scan provides us with information to monitor the autonomic system for proper function.

Spinal Inclinometer
A digital inclinometer is a test measuring spinal movement as compared to a normal reading.  When there is abnormal positioning of the vertebrae, it disturbs the Nervous System and causes abnormal muscle function.  This causes abnormal movement in the spine.  The longer the movement is restricted, the more irritation will occur causing increased degeneration.

Cold Laser
In the late 1960's, researchers introduced the concept of laser biostimulation using low-powered laser beams to produce non-thermal effects in human tissue. The first experimental applications of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) were reported in 1968, when researchers used ruby and argon lasers on non-healing or slow-to-heal ulcers. Later research substantiated the efficacy of laser treatment to accelerate the healing of wounds, attenuate pain, and reduce tissue inflammation in both humans and animals.

To treat chronic pain with laser biostimulation, one must reach deep into tissue to irradiate the affected area. Laser wavelengths between 820 nanometers to 840 nanometers have an extremely low absorption rate in human tissue, thus allowing deep penetration of laser light. The 830 nm laser beam is also well absorbed in subcellular organelles, causing them to function normally. The laser's low level of power output also affects the depth of the beam's penetration, and has been shown to be effective in treating human tissue. The 830nm laser with a power output between 60 milliwatts (mW) and 90 mW is reported by experimenting clinicians to be optimal for treating chronic pain.

Damaged cells, on examination, show that a dysfunctional nerve network, lymphatic system, or circulatory system, or possibly all three, produce an imbalance or abnormal condition. LLLT is effective in large part because it focuses on the interdependent relationship between the nerve network, lymphatic and circulatory systems. Although it is possible for damaged cells to normalize without LLLT, the use of LLLT may speed up the normalization process.

A good example of how LLLT speeds up the normalization process can be

demonstrated with acute soft tissue trauma. An injury of this type consists of damage to several elements involving the deep, sensitive layers beneath the epidermis; including muscular, neural, lymphatic and vascular tissue. The human body's natural reaction to acute soft tissue trauma is to "splint" the injury with edema, an accumulation of thin or watery fluid in tissue spaces or cell interstices, causing a swelling. This swelling prevents excessive movement of the damaged tissue and results in two types of pain. The first type is actual trauma pain from the injured tissue, while secondary pain comes from the swelling itself.

Low-level laser therapy first targets the lymphatic system, because it maintains the fluid balance in the body; and the infrared laser light also improves reabsorption of the edema. With LLLT, swelling is reduced, allowing movement to return to the treated area.

Spinal Decompression
Decompression relieves pressure that builds up on the discs and nerves. The task of relieving pain comes about as a result of drawing areas of herniated disc back into place.

Decompression achieves this by creating negative pressure within the disc, referred to as negative intra-discal pressure. This creates essentially a vacuum to draw the bulging and herniated disc material back into the disc space and relieve pressure.

As the ligaments that hold disc material in place become stretched or torn due to bulging and herniation, decompression strengthens the ligament bands that hold the disc material in place to heal & prevent future recurrence.

In most cases the healing process requires only a few weeks of treatment on an out-patient basis. We have committed to undergo expert training in the delivery of decompression and dedicate a large portion of our practice to the relief of severe and chronic low back pain. Patients come to us to return to a normal pain free life

Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy is the application of ice, ice massage, or compressions to reduce the temperature of tissue, thus reducing inflammation by decreasing the blood flow to the area of application, numbing the painful area, and stopping further swelling. Ice is most often used at the onset of an acute injury or an exacerbation of a chronic injury.

Superficial Heat
Superficial heat is the application of heat to the body by way of direct contact. This heat increases the temperature of the tissue being treated. It helps to increase the circulation, reduces joint stiffness, relaxes tissues such as muscles in spasm and connective tissue, and relieves pain temporarily. Heat is usually used for chronic pain conditions and/or muscle spasms.

Exercise Therapy
Therapeutic exercise is a individualized assessment from a chiropractic physician which includes stretches, strengthening movements, and aerobic activity designed specifically for the purpose of increasing ranges of motion, increasing support and stability to injured areas, rehabilitation, and prevention of further injuries.

Electro-Muscular Stimulation
This is a specific form of electrical current applied at the site of soft tissue injury. Small amounts of electrical currents are introduced to the surface of the body, and these currents reduce the swelling in the tissue, reduce pain sensations, promote muscle tone, and increase the healing process.

Interferential Electro-Therapy
This is much like electro-muscular stimulation in its application. Interferential is used primarily for pain relief. These currents are helpful in the release of endorphins within the body, which naturally relieve pain.

Microcurrent Therapy
Microcurrent uses small amounts of electrical current to aid in pain relief and soft tissue healing. The level of electrical current is measured in millionths of an amp. The current is so small that our bodies produce the same amount of current during the healing of damaged tissue. The influence of these currents helps to stimulate the healing process after an acute injury has taken place. Microcurrent helps in the reduction of swollen tissue, reduction of pain, and release of trigger points.

Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger points are uncontrolled muscle spasms which cause referred pain to other areas of the body. These muscle spasms cause pain, decrease range of motion, and increase muscle weakness. Trigger point therapy is the act of decreasing of relieving these muscle spasms. The spasms are relieved by sustaining pressure over a short period of time. This treatment is a great way to reduce chronic muscle spasms, avoid scar tissue formation, improve muscle tone, and increase range of motion.
